Famous designer and YouTuber? Check! New package design contest for your pet’s fictional favorite food? You’ve got it!
Watch five designers tackle the brief on DesignBro, as they compete for the big prize, in Will Paterson’s new video.
The brief
We imagined a new, premium pet food brand, launching on Amazon and select retail stores in the UK and Netherlands.
‘Oh Boy’ is both ‘excitement’ and ‘facepalm’. The unconditional love. The joy of seeing the human best friend return home for the first time. Every time. Or the human’s amused eye roll when seeing the gnawed couch back home.
The tone of voice for the brand is funny, witty, meme-inspired and doesn’t take itself too seriously.
Packaging details
The product should come in pouches, with a twist: the packaging can feature cutouts, making the food contents visible.
Design contest
Ink went for a funky illustrative style of the ‘oops’ moments from the brief, with a touch of neon and a healthy dose of memes.
Bartos captured a special snapshot, between the owner and the pet – the anticipation in the dog’s eyes as he’s receiving the treat, with the bib leaning towards the premium aspect of the product.
Joanne explored a more photo-centric approach, with an all black, premium pouch design and a witty remark right on the package.
John89’s design is storytelling at its finest. The detailed illustration depicts the dog and its owner sharing a special ‘oops’ moment, much to the owner’s amusement.
Nick’s take on the package design is also full-on storytelling, featuring an excited dog you really can’t get mad at, even as it left a wonderful trail of muddy paw prints on the carpet. Oh boy!
