Comic book giant, Marvel, has announced the launch of its new book Marvel by Design. The book mainly deals with the “graphic design strategies of the world’s greatest comics company.”
Written by Liz Stinson, editor of Eye on Design, the book focuses on Marvel’s design aesthetics, such as logos, colors, fonts, covers, and an array of visual delights. Stinson used her extensive experience of more than a decade in the design industry to throw light on various graphic design strategies of Marvel.
According to Marvel, readers can expect an in-depth analysis of various aspects of the brand’s visual language. The insights provided in the book can inspire designers and creative artists to express themselves in newer ways.
Marvel by Design will help readers understand the ‘Marvel method’ of achieving great designs across various mediums and not just comic books. The book can serve as a template that can help create logos, layouts, covers, fonts, color palettes, and visual effects.
Marvel has collaborated with Gestalten to publish the book.
An article published on Gestalten’s website mentions, “As one of the most recognizable brands in the world, Marvel has spent the last 80-plus years inspiring generations of creatives through its approach to visual storytelling. Marvel’s comic books, in particular, established a distinct graphic language that has found its way into mainstream culture, including 1960s Pop Art, and present-day digital culture, gaming, advertising, and more.”
According to the article, apart from celebrating Marvel’s graphic language, readers will learn about the unique methods applied by Marvel to achieve unimaginable visual delights.
“Throughout the book, Marvel by Design will connect the dots between the comic culture and its undeniable influence in every creative field including the evolution of graphic design, editorial design, movies, and visual culture at large,” the article further states. On its official Facebook page, Gestalten mentioned, “We are thrilled to unveil an exciting collaboration with Marvel.
Marvel by Design will celebrate the iconic company’s visual language, exploring the design processes behind the brand’s most recognizable graphic elements; from logos to covers, lettering to layout, and the characters which have defined generations.” (https://www.facebook.com/gestalten/photos/a.424513070999/10159342919621000/)
