Square Enix, the Japanese video game company, recently introduced two new logos to celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary of Final Fantasy VII.
Released on January 31, 1997, Final Fantasy VII quickly became a rage. According to GameFan, it was “quite possibly the greatest game ever made.” Apart from winning the Game of the Year Award in 1997, it won several other honors.
The brand new logos celebrate the success of the franchise and includes artwork from Tetsuya Nomura—a video game artist on the ’97 PlayStation release.
Both the logos appear in the Final Fantasy font, which beautifully complements the image of the three warriors. The three soldiers, Zack, Cloud, and Sephiroth, appear wrapped around in one of Sephiroth’s wings and symbolize the warriors intertwining fate. The logo has been executed in black and white, which oozes sophistication and class. The color combination also adds an element of mystery.
The old logo had an image of a falling meteor as one of the central elements of the design. The image has been replaced by the wings of Sephiroth, which symbolize freedom, wisdom, and fate.
The presence of Zack in the logo has confused some critics because he had a marginal role to play in Final Fantasy VII. However, the soldier’s heroics in other franchise-related series, including Crisis Core – Final Fantasy VII, could be the reason for his inclusion in the logo.
Earlier this week, Tetsuya Nomura informed the fans that projects related to Final Fantasy VII would be announced this year.
“And there will be even more FFVII that started up after the remake coming in future too,” wrote Nomura.
“The team sees this 25th anniversary as a waypoint on our journey with FFVII, and will continue pressing ahead to even greater things, so please keep supporting us going forward.”
While Nomura’s statements indicate spin-off games or remakes of the Final Fantasy VII franchise, it is left to be seen if they would be as elaborate as the 25th-anniversary celebration of Resident Evil last year. Another franchise that will celebrate its 35th anniversary this year is Capcom’s Street Fighter. While fans have been hooked by Nomura’s statement and wait for the mysteries to be unveiled, they can soon lay their hands on Final Fantasy Ever Crisis, another mobile game by the franchise.
